I started Paleo eating about 2 months ago. I am one of those people who have been every size imaginable during their lifetime. I've tried Weight Watchers, Adkins, Southbeach, Vegan/Vegetarian, Clean Eating, Grapefruit diet, Cabbage Diet, diet pills, starvation, low carb, high-carb, and low-fat.
Nothing seemed to work. I have struggled really hard in the past few years to get my weight under control. My heaviest was 246 and this was WITHOUT being pregnant.
*** me at one of my heaviest times
Starting in August of 2012 I knew I didn't want to be heavy anymore. I turned 39 and for the previous 6 birthdays I told myself I was going to lose the weight and never succeeded. This time it was going to be different. I didn't want to turn 40 with all this extra weight.
I modified my portions starting in August and lost a bit of weight. Then Jan 2013 came around and I knew something new had to happen. That is when I discovered Paleo. And it has changed my life. Many people have encouraged me to blog about it and post my recipes. I can only reach so many people on Facebook and I hope with this blog I can reach others who were like the old me.
You could call me a "foodie" as I love all types of foods. Paleo was a bit challenging at first because while I didn't eat boxed processed foods (like hamburger helper or those noodle and rice dishes), I did LOVE bread and grains and pasta and bread and rice and...did I mention bread?
Eating Paleo you give up grains. You give up sugar. You give up a lot of stuff. I thought to myself..."could I really stick to this? could I really do this?" I mean on every other diet I would give up after about a month.
But so far it's been over 2 months and I am feeling better than ever. I have lost 20lbs since January. I've gone from a size 18 down to a size 12 (10s are still way tight, but that is motivation for me!)
I just wish I had measured myself when I first started. I would love to see how many inches I have lost so far.
But more than anything, I have ENERGY! No more tiredness and I know the other mom's out there can sympathize with me about the need to have energy when you have a child(ren) around. You need to be at your best to take care of everyone else.
